Dear Friends and Colleagues,

We are proud to announce that BIT’s 3^rd Annual Congress of Marine Biotechnology (WCMB-2013) will be held from September 23-25, 2013 in Hangzhou, China with the theme of "Development and Utilization, Draw the Blue Future". On behalf of the organizing committee, I cordially invite you to attend this conference and come ready to discuss exciting new ideas and achievements in this field.

On earth the oceans comprise the biggest part of the biosphere and also contain the most ancient and diverse forms of life. It is only with the tools of modern science that these biological resources can be studied in detail, and the things learned from them applied for human benefit and fundamental scientific progress. Reports have shown that the resources of the sea remain largely unexplored, and that marine organisms represent a vast untapped resource with potential benefits in many areas including: medicine, aquaculture, fisheries, industry, research, and environmental protection and restoration. For this reason we have organized WCMB-2013 to bring together scientists and industry leaders from marine biotechnology organizations to encourage the development of commercial marine biotechnology.

WCMB-2013 will take the form of keynote lectures, oral presentations, posters, exhibitions and project matchmaking. It will cover topics from recent breakthroughs in marine biotechnology, algal biotechnology, marine natural products and valuable materials, marine bioenergy and engineering, marine resources and environment bioremediation to applications of marine biotechnology. WCMB-2013 will continue to provide a platform for marine biotechnologists to debate on the issues affecting the progress of this emerging field and identify the challenges and opportunities facing the development of marine biotechnology.

On behalf of the organizing committee of WCMB-2013, I would like to welcome all the participants to this event. I would also like to offer my appreciation to all the scientific advisors, session organizers, supporters and committee members who have put forth enormous efforts in bringing this conference together.
